Meditation Exercises

We all have our own resons for taking up meditation. These usually fall into several main categories, health, stress prevention, self realisation and spiritual impulse.

As everyone becomes more aware of the mind - body connection doctors are often recommending meditation for stress related illness and depression. Deep relaxation and visualisation can create both emotional and physical benifits. During meditation the lactate concentration of the blood, which is closely linked to anxiety levels, decreases sharply. The breathing pattern established create conditions of serenity and calm. Even the brain rythms alter during this form of deep relaxation. Meditation can help us to cope more effectively with stress, it is one way in which we are able to gain more control over our own health.

Meditation also has the power to awaken us to the spiritual levels of our being. Not through what we read or have been taught, but through our own experience. Meditation enables us to discover who we really are and what we have the potential to achieve.

I have included several of my favourite meditations, mostly taken from some of my favourite books.
I have included the details of the books out of respect to the author and to allow you to access more similar exercises if you wish.
