Aim: to strengthen your natural auric protection

  • Find a place where you can sit undisturbed

  • Choose a colour, either white, sky-blue or gold.

  • Carry out the inner light exercise

Take two or three deep breaths, allowing the air to come into your body to soften and relax it . . Breathe in slowly and hold the breath for a couple of seconds and then release it . . . Beginning with your feet, take a mental survey of your body and notice which parts of yourself are tense and tight and which parts are soft and relaxed . . . How do your feet feel? . . . Mentally travel up to your legs . . . Now up to your torso . . . Notice how your arms and hands feel . . . Now focus on your shoulders and neck . . . If there is any tension, gently breathe into these areas to release the muscles . . . Notice the feelings in your head and face and gently relax those muscles . . . Now go down your back and spine, noticing how they feel . . . Pay attention to every part of your body . . . Slowly take a deep breath and allow the air coming into your body to relax and release any tension you may have felt . . . Now visualise a beautiful white light above your head . . . Feel that light begin to surround your body . . . Allow your body to fill up with the light and use it to nourish your organs and tissue . . . Your body acts like a sponge and absorbs all the light it can . . . Every cell of your body is being bathed by the light . . . You are becoming a glowing being of light . . . Take a deep breath and feel the peace and love as your body completely relaxes.

  • Close your eyes and imagine or sense that you are creating a bubble of light, extending to about 2 feet around your self, which is composed of your chosen colour. Make sure that this light is above your head, as well as under your feet.

  • Sense or imagine this light expanding and contracting until you feel that you have found the most comfortable distance.

  • Sense or imagine this light alternating between being stationary and spinning like a top.

  • Open your eyes and sense this protection is still around you.

  • When you have tried this out with one colour, try another.

  • Assess Which colour you feel most comfortable with and note down any other feelings or sensations.

 

Note: Technically white and gold are not true colours but are included here for the vibrational energy that they reflect.

Ideally, a protection exercise should be carried out before any psi work is undertaken. It can also become a very useful addition before and after meditation exercises. I always spend a few moments each day, when I get up and just before going to bed, in balancing and protecting my aura.

With practice, and by reducing the time spent relaxing, it can become an almost instantaneous response that can be called upon in any emergency situation. Practice is important. You can soon learn to carry out this exercise with your eyes open. Try doing it when you have a few moments to yourself, on the train to work, or during a coffee break. The more that you do this, the stronger your auric protection becomes for, in my experience, each attempt has a cumulative effect.

If you carried out the protection exercise correctly, you would have noticed that one colour felt more appropriate for you than another. I have given this exercise on many occasions to my students and have been struck by how clear their preferences can be. Some individuals feel completely at home with a blue bubble of protection, but averse to gold, while others are aware of an opposite reaction. The reason for this lies in the basic make-up of the person in question. It also highlights the power of colour in our imagery would and how we respond to these images in our psyche.

Colours are used in religious and mystical groups to denote different hierarchies or levels of authority: the Bishops, Cardinals and Pope in the Catholic Church wear coloured robes to denote their respective offices. The three colours from the protection exercise, white, blue and gold, carry the following meanings.

  • Gold is associated with the sun and carries a powerful Yang, or positive energy, that can be very forceful. It will consume any energy that is not in harmony with it. Those who have an outgoing, positive outlook on life will find this energy most appropriate. It suits the action people of this world. It is a colour that is most appropriate in situations where there is much disturbed energy around.

  • White symbolises purity and vitality. It reflects all colours and therefore has the effect of reflecting back whatever is sent at it. It can be very helpful where energies are being projected onto others. Its mirroring quality allows others to begin to see the effects of their thoughts and actions upon us. It is a good colour to use in normal day-to-day circumstances and is often the colour suggested for protection in books. However, there are some who find its energies too agitating and therefore do not get on well with using it.

  • Syk-blue is sometimes referred to as Madonna blue and carries a soothing, passive energy that neutralises and harmonises what is projected onto it. Its link with the divine feminine archetype and the quality of spiritual love gives it wide appeal. It will tend to transform and diffuse energies in a non-intrusive way. It is the natural colour for those whose approach to life is more passive and gentle. However, some individuals feel that it carries a claustrophobic quality that smothers their vitality. This may be caused by difficult associations with one’s mother.

These colour associations have been established over a long period of time by those who have meditated upon and used colour symbolism in their religious practices. These three colours are the primary protectors in the spectrum but other hues can be used, including pink and violet. These have different flavours of energy, which might attract you. The way to find out is by experimentation and noting down what you feel or sense about these qualities.

Getting into this mode of experience is something that women, on the whole, are better at than men. It requires an ability to get our of the intellectual part of your mind and into your feeling, sensing and intuitive aspects. When these connections start to happen it is rather like ‘seeing’ the picture, for the first time, in the three-dimensional ‘magic’ computer drawings that are so popular at the moment. The mind suddenly makes the link and the picture leaps out with startling clarity. The strange thing about psi awareness is when you suddenly discover your ability to be receptive at this other level, you often discover that you have been picking up information all along without realising it.

You could liken the psi protective colours to your basic clothes, to which you can add a whole range of protective symbols, such as the cross, that will overlay the colour with an additional quality of energy. In a later chapter, more detailed information will be included about the use of symbols but, in essence, symbols act as links to the different flavours of energy. Study any Renaissance painting and it is littered with different symbols, each conveying messages from the artist. On a psi level, symbols act as access codes on the quantum plane for specific qualities of energy.

Symbols come in four forms. They can be:

  • Of human origin, for example a shield.

  • Animals, for example a lion.

  • Geometric symbols, for example a Star of David.

  • Natural or cosmic symbols, for example the sun, water.

When working with symbols, you can imagine that they are over the top of your head, placed next to you (in front, behind, beside, over the top of your head or under your feet) or that you are standing within them. Their energy then becomes linked to you. At the higher grades, all martial arts are based upon the use of energy, or Ch’i, by the mind and the different ways that you can throw your opponent off-balance, by using your energy correctly.

There may be occasions where you feel a difficult energy is coming from one particular individual. In these cases, you may find that imagining a mirror between you and them is most appropriate. This will have the effect of breaking any links that are coming to you.

PROTECTION AT WORK

Protection is important in all areas where there may be difficult energies around. Those in the teaching, police and therapeutic professions are particularly vulnerable, but in practice there are many areas or jobs that have a potentially conflicting dynamic. A few suggestions are given below, connected to different professions, for appropriate symbols to add to you auric colour. You can experiment with them to see what feels appropriate.

  • Caring professions: caduceus (staff of Hermes) or lotus.

  • Teaching, writing: book or quill pen.

  • Law: scales.

  • Police or armed services: dog or lioness.

  • Acting: a lyre.

  • Musician: white rose over your head.

  • Mediator: lotus under one’s body or over the head.

These symbols, are related to mythology, they give an idea of the different qualities that you might require for any particular activity. Animal symbols such as a lion, bear or dog are good guardians and general protectors whenever you feel physically or mentally threatened by something or someone. The chalice is a symbol of inspiration and should be used whenever you need additional insight. The lotus brings harmony and is excellent for group meetings where confrontations could be destructive.

PROTECTION AROUND OTHER THINGS

Protection can be applied not just to yourself but to any person, place or object that may need psi help. Instead of imagining that you are placing a bubble of light around yourself, visualise it around the object or person that you are thinking about. Some examples of where protections may be appropriate include:

  • your home

  • your car

  • your place of work

  • your family members

  • your meditation room or space

  • your healing or psi development work

  • your projects
